Africana Studies
The purpose of the Africana Studies Program is to engender in Lehigh students an intellectual appreciation of the life and culture of people of African descent worldwide, especially in the United States, thereby enriching the Lehigh curriculum and increasing the relevance of a Lehigh education to a culturally diverse society and world. In the best tradition of a liberal arts education, Africana Studies expands all Lehigh students’ critical understanding of their own heritage in interaction with other cultures.
Latin American and Latino Studies
Offering courses in Anthropology, Art, Architecture, and Design, History, International Relations, Political Science, Sociology, and Spanish, the Latin American Studies (LAS) program at Lehigh University offers students an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Latin America.
Asian Studies
The Asian Studies program provides undergraduates in any college within Lehigh an opportunity to acquire a systematic knowledge of Asia, specifically East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific. The program focuses on the rich historical and cultural heritage of the countries of Asia.
Global Studies
Global Studies is a relatively new major, only available at schools with numerous, strong, globally-oriented departments. Because many important issues now facing the world can’t be addressed by just one department or discipline, the Global Studies major is different from traditional majors. It is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary program.
Center for Global Islamic Studies
Launched in the fall of 2009, the Center is an intellectual community committed to the study of Islamic civilization. With the support of a generous grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, CGIS promotes interdisciplinary teaching and research designed to take Islamic Studies into and beyond the classroom by offering students, faculty and the broader community a variety of forums for dialogue, debate and experiential learning.
